Angela Moore, President and Founder of the Friends of Mario Lanza (FOML) fan club in Rugby, England, sadly passed away on February 15, 2009. She was an active, dynamite lady who also held the positions of Treasurer and Secretary. She started this club for Mario's fans in 1996 and this popular fan club still enjoys its ever-growing membership. Soon after Joan Marsden, Assistant Chairman and devoted Mario Lanza fan, passed away. Joan had seen Mario Lanza perform many times in concert and even met Mario and his family in Italy. She was photographed with Mario which can be seen in some of his biographies.
The FOML host their Annual Meeting and get-together, usually around the third week of September. It is a fun-filled weekend of activities including music, singing, dinners, auctions and much more. This function allows FOML members from all over the world an opportunity to meet and share stories about Mario. Damon Lanza, Mario's son, was Honorary President of this club until he passed away suddenly on August 16, 2008 of a heart attack like his father, and only five months before Angela. Damon and Bob Dolfi, associate and close family friend, attended the club's get-togethers most every year and they fondly nick-named the FOML "Mario's Second Home." Bob accepted the appointment of Honorary President of the club and he and Marlene D'Attanasio, the other LanzaLegend Team member, will continue to support the FOML and attend their functions.
Bob Davies, who has been a dedicated FOML committee member for years, has been appointed Chairman, Treasurer and Editor of the FOML. The price to become an FOML fan club member and receive their newsletter, which is published 6 times a year, for England is £15 sterling for single/£20 sterling for double and for America is $35. 14th ANNUAL MEETING
The Friends of Mario Lanza Fan Club - Coventry, England 2010
Since the inception of The Friends of Mario Lanza Fan Club (FOML) in Rugby, England, a general get-together has taken place every year. Fans from all over the world come to join the festivities and to spend one of the most fun-filled weekends ever put together. After the passing of the Founder and President of the club, the committee moved the festivities to Coventry, England.
The camaraderie shared with this club is the best of all the fans clubs
in the world. Chairman Bob Davies and alll the Committee members work
very hard throughout the year to make this a great reality. Records,
CDs, sheet music, pictures, books and much more are just a small portion
of what gets auctioned off. One year they even auctioned off Damon Lanza
to raise money for the club (joke).
If you're free this September 10th-13th, 2010, come to Coventry, England and join in all the fun with many Lanza fans. In addition to spending quality time with other Lanza fans and enjoying wonderful meals, there will be quizzes, auctions and goods for sale. Below are the cost and location details.
